prediction markets

Prediction markets allow trading of bets on various events.  While they can be a good indicator of participant opinions on such topics, positions in such markets are gambling, rather than investing.  When one owns a stock, one has a theoretical ownership of a company's assets.  Similarly, options on a stock leave one with such ownership if the position is exercised.  Bonds give owners a legal claim against company income and assets.  By contrast, bets in prediction markets leave the person who paid money for them with nothing if the outcome does not go their way.
